In this guide, you will learn how to connect the mobile point of purchase (mPOP) printer to your iPad. For more information, see our help guide How to connect the mobile point of purchase (mPOP) cash drawer to your Timely account.
Important note: Smartpay is only available in New Zealand. The integration was deprecated on August 8, 2023 and is not available to new users. For a better customer experience, we recommend using one of the TimelyPay terminals.
Step One: Set up the mPOP

Set up the mPOP on your counter, and plug in the power cord to the mPOP. You can find out more about this in Star's help guide.

Next, connect the iPad to the mPOP via USB/Lightning cable, using the tablet USB output. You can find more information on how to do this in Star's help guide.

Lastly, load the receipt paper into the mPOP, Star have instructions on how to do this here.
Step Two: Pair the mPOP to your iPad

Open the settings app on your iPad and click bluetooth from the menu.

Ensure bluetooth is turned on. This should be green. If the slider is greyed out, click again to ensure bluetooth is enabled.

In the bluetooth devices section, click on the Star mPOP. The mPOP and iPad will then be connected.
Step Three: Connect the mPOP to Timely

In the Timely app, go to the settings page and click none next to printers in the hardware section. Then click on the mPOP in the search results to select it.
2 You will then be required to configure the printer. You can set the name, as well as decide to auto-print, open on cash payment, and/or open on sale complete.

Then click save to complete the process. The printer will then show up as being connected.
Step Four: Install the mPOP Utility app and update your settings
To save you time and ensure your mPOP and iPad stay connected, you will can install the mPOP Utility app and update a few settings. To do this:

Head to the App store and download the mPOP Utility app.

Once this has downloaded, open the app on your iPad.

Then select bluetooth settings from the list, and toggle auto connection to on.

You will then be prompted to turn new pairing permission off. Then click yes to confirm.

Next, turn the iPad off and on again after applying the setting. Then click yes to continue.

When you are ready, click apply to save your changes.
