Mobile point of purchase (mPOP), created by Star Micronics, is a compact and combined bluetooth receipt printer and cash drawer designed to support mobile point of sale (mPOS) systems. This is a portable solution for retail stores, and salons alike. It is compatible with Android, Apple iOS, Windows, and most importantly: Timely!
In this guide, you will learn what you need to to get started with mPOP and Smartpay. For more information, see our help guides How to connect the mPOP printer to your Timely account and How to connect the mPOP cash drawer to your Timely account.
Important note: Smartpay is only available in New Zealand. The integration was deprecated on August 8, 2023 and is not available to new users. For a better customer experience, we recommend using one of the TimelyPay terminals.
What you will need to get started
- An iPhone or iPad that is running on the latest version of iOS and has the following apps installed:
- Timely iOS app (Link to App Store).
- mPOP Utility app (Link to App Store).
- (Optional) A lightning to USB cable to charge the iPad.
- The mPOP cash drawer and printer with the necessary accessories.
- Your Smartpay terminal which includes the terminal base unit, Ethernet/Phone cable and Power Supply (Items may differ between models).
- You will need to have a Merchant account set up with Smartpay and have connected your terminal to the Paymark network.
- Your terminal will have arrived with a printed receipt still attached. If the receipt is a short receipt with your business name on it, you are now all ready to go. If not, you’ll need to call Smartpay before you can connect on 0800 476 278. They will release the security key and perform your initial logon.
- Your terminal Admin code - this will give you access to all of the configuration menus of your terminal. To find your admin code, check out the initial documentation or contact Smartpay directly.
