Connect Tyro to your Timely account to streamline your payment process and reduce handling errors.
In this guide we'll cover how to connect Tyro to your iPad/iPhone and process payments from your Timely account:
- Enable the Tyro integration.
- Pair your Tyro terminal with Timely.
- Process a payment with Tyro.
- Refund a Tyro payment.

Enable Tyro integration
- Login to the Timely desktop site: https://app.gettimely.com/
- Head to Setup > Sales settings from the main menu:
- Scroll down to the iOS app integrations section:
- Check the box next to Allow iPad and iPhone app to pair with a Tyro payment terminal.
- Click Save to apply.
Pair Tyro with your iOS device
Before you can process payments, you will need to pair your Tyro terminal to your Timely iOS app.
- Open the Timely iOS app.
- Go to the Settings page:
- Tap Payment types from the Settings page:
- Tap Tyro from the options:
- Tap to select your terminal from the options.
- Enter your Merchant ID and Terminal ID when prompted, then tap Authorise to pair:
- If the details are entered are accepted, you'll see a "Pairing successful" message.
Tap Ok to dismiss the setup window and complete the process:
Process a payment with Tyro
Now that you've connected Tyro, you will be able to select this as a payment type when raising a sale.
- Raise a sale as you would normally (Find out more).
- Tap Pay to open up the payment options:
- Tap Tyro from the options:
- You will see a screen that pops up with the total and prompts you to Swipe/Insert card:
- The total will then be sent to your terminal, where you can process the payment using the client's card:
- The payment will be shown as processing in Timely:
- Once the payment has been processed via Tyro, the sale will be shown as APPROVED in Timely:
- If the payment fails to process, you will see a message on the Timely app:
Tap Cancel Transaction to stop a payment in process and return to the payments page. Tap YES to confirm and cancel:
Refund a Tyro payment
If you need to refund a customer's payment at any point, that was processed via Tyro, this can be done on the Tyro terminal directly.
Enable refunds
Before you can process a refund, you will need to enable this on your terminal. The refund function is disabled by default for security reasons.
This will require you to set a password, which must be used every time you want to process a refund.
- On the terminal, press the Menu button.
- When prompted, enter the admin password and press OK.
- Go to the Configuration menu (5).
- Select Refunds (2) from the options.
- Select Enable (1) from the options.
- Enter a password to be used for refunds.
- Press OK to apply.
Process a refund
- On the terminal, press the Menu button.
- Select Transactions (1) from the list.
- Select Refund (2) from the options.
- Complete the rest of the onscreen instructions to process the refund.
If the wrong password is used, the terminal will lock you out for a period of time. After 15 incorrect attempts, the terminal will be blocked and you will need to contact Tyro Customer Support directly.
Note: Integrated refunds are coming to Timely soon. This will allow you to process the refund within Timely as well. In the meantime, you will need to Delete the payment in Timely as well.
