In 2021, AfterPay is changing the way you process payments using their buy-now-pay-later service. They are replacing their client app and barcode system with new client cards. These cards can be treated like a credit card and scanned through any card reader to complete AfterPay payments.
This means that the old Afterpay integration with barcode will be retired and removed from all Timely accounts.
Australia - AfterPay switched to cards on 30 September 2021
New Zealand - AfterPay will switch to cards on 29 October 2021
Dates are subject to change by AfterPay and will be updated accordingly if and when new dates are shared with us.
What will change
On the date that AfterPay switches from barcodes to cards in your country, we will update the AfterPay payment type in your system. Selecting AfterPay will no longer load the barcode reader, but will simply log the sale in Timely, the same as we do for a custom payment type. To process the sale, you will then use your in-store card reader, the same as you do for credit or debit cards.
If a client wants to pay with their AfterPay card before your country's switch date, you can set up a custom payment type to accurately log the sales. This can be deleted later.
It's a good idea to speak with your team so that they are comfortable with the new way of taking AfterPay payments.
