PayPal integration ending in Timely

PayPal payments through Timely will stop processing from 1 January 2027 as PayPal retires the technology behind the current integration. If you’re already using PayPal with Timely, you can continue using it for now, but we recommend switching to TimelyPay or another supported payment gateway before the deadline to avoid disruption. This guide explains what’s changing and how to prepare.
 

Important note: we’re no longer making updates to the PayPal integration, and we’re not supporting new PayPal connections or reconnections.

 


What you need to do

1 Review your current PayPal setup in Timely and consider how you’d like to take payments once the integration ends.

 

2 Choose whether you’d like to switch to TimelyPay or another supported payment gateway.

 

3 Set up your new payment option before 1 January 2027.

 

4 Test your payment flow before switching so you and your clients are comfortable with the new process.

 

Important note: if you disconnect PayPal from Timely, you won’t be able to reconnect it later. Keep PayPal connected until you’re ready to move to your new payment gateway.

 


Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • Will PayPal keep working for now?
    Yes. If you’re already using PayPal with Timely, your current integration will continue working for now. However, PayPal payments through Timely will stop processing from 1 January 2027.
     

  • What happens if I disconnect PayPal?
    If you disconnect PayPal from Timely, you won’t be able to reconnect it later. You’ll need to choose TimelyPay or another supported payment gateway to keep taking payments through Timely.
     

  • Why should I switch before 1 January 2027?
    Switching early gives you time to set up and test your new payment option, avoid a rushed change closer to the deadline and make sure your clients have a smooth checkout experience.
     

  • What payment option does Timely recommend?
    TimelyPay is our recommended option where available because it brings payments into the same system you already use to manage bookings, clients and checkout. You can also connect in-person payments if you need them. For more information, see Introduction to TimelyPay. 
     

  • Can I use another payment gateway instead of TimelyPay?
    Yes. If TimelyPay isn’t the right option for your business, you can choose another supported payment gateway. See Payment gateways supported in Timely. 
     

  • What do I need to do before PayPal stops processing?
    Set up your new payment gateway before 1 January 2027 and test your payment flow before switching. Keep PayPal connected until you’re ready to move, as it cannot be reconnected once disconnected.
