Creating services is one of the most important tasks to complete when setting up your Timely account. Having an organised service menu helps your clients have a seamless booking experience, and helps orient your staff. Once your services are set up, clients can book these online, or your staff can book them right there and then, in-salon! In this guide, you will learn how to set up your services.
Timely tip: If you regularly perform these services together, you can add them a service group For more information on how to do this, see our help guide How to set up and book service groups.
How to set up your services
Step-by-step instructions
1
Head to setup from the main menu in your Timely account dashboard, and click services.
2
Now select the category you want the service to be in then click add service.
3
Name the service, and if you like, you can add a description. Clients who book online will see the description, so this is a great opportunity to sell the benefits of the service you are providing!
4
Set the price of the service. You can customise the prices, allowing you to charge varying amounts depending on the seniority and level of experience your staff have. See our help guide How to add tiered pricing to services for more information on how to do this.
5
Now you can select the duration of the service. By default, it's set to thirty minutes, but this can be adjusted. If the service needs processing times, or padding you can select this here. You can also find out more about how this works in our help guide How to add padding or processing time to services.
6 If you need to charge a sales tax (such as GST or VAT) for this service, select the type of tax and check the box.
7
You can also make the each service it's own colour, so you can easily see it in your calendar. To do this, click the circle and choose a colour from the wheel. You can also customise which staff member can perform the service by checking the box next to their name. If the service needs a resource, like a room or specialised equipment, you can choose this too.
8 It's optional if you want clients to be able to book online. You can allow all existing and new clients to book the service and be added to your waitlist, only VIP clients, or uncheck every box so it can't be booked online at all.
9
You can also decide whether you want to add a booking question and make it mandatory before the appointment is booked. You can customise if it must be answered when booking online, booked by a staff member through the calendar, or neither. It's really up to you!
10
If you're taking online bookings, make sure to choose your payment policy. Either you can use your default policy or set a different policy for just this service.
11
When you are ready, click save to apply your changes. This service is now ready to be booked!
