After you've connected your PayPal Business Account with Timely, you'll need to login to PayPal and update your settings. This makes sure you'll get paid correctly and your invoices are up-to-date.
You'll need to check all these settings:
- Instant Payment Notifications
- GST or VAT payments in PayPal
- Block payments settings
- Website preferences
Check your Instant Payment Notifications
This needs to be setup correctly so any time a client uses PayPal to pay you for products or services, their payment will show in Timely. This makes sure your records stay up-to-date.
1 Click your profile icon in the top right hand corner, and select Account settings.
If you can't find the Account Settings, you might be using your PayPal Personal account. You'll need to change to a PayPal Business account.
2 Use the search field on the left-hand side to find Instant Payment Notifications.
3 Click on Update in the Instant Payment Notifications section.
4 Under Notification URL the address needs to be https://webhooks.gettimely.com/webhooks/paypal/ Click Edit Settings to change it if you need to.
5 Make sure that Message Delivery is Enabled.

Remove paying GST or VAT in PayPal
Timely already adds GST or VAT to your sales. So, you'll need to delete this in PayPal so you don't charge your clients double.
1 Click your profile icon in the top right hand corner, and select Account settings.
If you can't find the Account Settings, you might be using your PayPal Personal account. You'll need to change to a PayPal Business account.
2 On the left-hand menu, select Payment Preferences.
3 Click Update.
4 Select your region.
5 Click Delete, then Yes to confirm.
Check your block payments settings
If you would like to request a deposit or partial payment for an online booking or invoice, you will need to allow this setting in PayPal. This will allow clients to pay the remainder of their balance online.
1 Click your profile icon in the top right hand corner, and select Account settings.
If you can't find the Account Settings, you might be using your PayPal Personal account. You'll need to change to a PayPal Business account.
2 Use the search field on the left-hand side to find Block payments.
3 Click Update.
4 Make sure Allow payments sent to me in a currency I do not hold is set to Yes.
5 Make sure Block accidental payments is set to No.
If you don't request deposits for bookings and want customers to pay for their service in full, then you will need to make sure that the Block accidental payments is set to Yes.
Adjust website preferences
1 Click your profile icon in the top right hand corner, and select Account settings.
If you can't find the Account Settings, you might be using your PayPal Personal account. You'll need to change to a PayPal Business account.
2 On the left-hand menu, select Website payments.
3 Click Update
4 Make sure Auto-return is set to Off.
5 Make sure Payment data transfer is set to Off.
6 Make sure Block non-encrypted website payment is set to Off.
7 Make sure your clients can pay via credit card without having a PayPal account. Go to the PayPal account optional section, and set it to On.
