Starting September 30th, 2024, all existing UK long code mobile numbers will need to be approved by a UK regulatory authority to send messages. To continue using your dedicated SMS number, you will need to have verified your business details due to update compliance requirements. This article is specific to customers who were part of a historic pilot, and were able to retain their dedicated number.
Important note: dedicated SMS numbers are not available in the UK region to customers not part of our legacy pilot.
Why did customers need to verify their dedicated SMS number?
The UK enforced a new regulation to combat fraud and SMS based phishing attempts (known as 'smishing'), ensuring responsible use of SMS and voice services. These measures were put in place to enhance security, reduce spam, and build consumer trust in telecommunications by verifying the legitimacy of businesses.
If you did not verify in time, this will have resulted in your dedicated number being disabled. Instead, you will have been assigned a shared pool number, which will impact two-way messaging and client replies.
